Matthew Effects’ The Futurist is a MIDI stompbox with 210 patches for your synths
The pedal has been designed to “make MIDI easier and more accessible” to musicians.
The Futurist from Matthew Effects is a compact MIDI controller for your pedalboard and synth racks. According to the American brand, the sleek and stylish pedal is designed to “make MIDI easier and more accessible”.
A total of 210 patches can be configured with 16 MIDI messages per patch and the ability to store control Expression, Utility Jack and MIDI Clock settings. In addition, PC, CC, Note On, and Note Off messages can be sent, plus a Manual option to program other MIDI messages. These features could make the pedal ideal for both MIDI newcomers and veterans. Each patch can be labelled with its own eight-character name for quick reference.
Four footswitches are featured for navigating The Futurist. You can hook up the pedal to your gear via USB, 3.5mm TRS MIDI In/Out, and five-pin MIDI In/Out. Additionally, a Utility port can be used to send analogue tap tempo signals or as a latching or momentary switch.
A Control jack lets you connect an expression pedal to send CC messages over MIDI, or can be used to expand The Futurist with three additional footswitches.
Matthew Effects has created accompanying software to let you create, edit and organise patches, along with creating presets for MIDI control messages. A Smart Editor Wizard enables you to choose the brand and model of the equipment you want to control, and the action you need the MIDI controller to perform. The Smart Editor Wizard can then set up the patch to use the desired MIDI message automatically.
