Tired by the same old surroundings? You may want to check out the ETC, a new video synth released by Critter & Guitari…
What’s so special about the ETC is that it will generate live visuals from any audio that comes in via its built-in mono input. What results is a hypnotizing amalgam between the iTunes visualizer and the quirk and colour of Nintendo graphics.
The visuals are created by different pattern generators (modes), all of which can be switched using the buttons and tweaked visually by turning the ETC’s four knobs.
Each mode responds to the audio in different ways, ranging from “smooth undulating patterns to rapid fire animations.” There’s also a control for modifying the background colour and create a collage effect
ETC is the latest creation from Brooklyn’s Critter & Guitari, known for their tiny handcrafted instruments such as the Organelle and Pocket Piano and as such includes some similar features. Just like the Organelle the ETC allows you to program your own modes and upload them to the device. You’ll also find MIDI connections, which means there’s no worries of going out of sync with everything else when performing live.
Pricing and Availabilty:
ETC is available now from the Critter & Guitari store for $495.
