inSIDious brings the Commodore 64 SID chip to your DAW
Impact Soundworks reignites the sounds of 80s 8-bit
Mike Clarke of Impact Soundworks has developed inSIDious, a Reaktor instrument that recreates the legendary SID sound chip of the Commodore 64. The plug-in has contributions from revered composers and musicians that favoured the C64, including Mark Knight, Chris Huelsbeck, Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Jason Page, and more. “This synth finally brings the true sound of the SID to every DAW”, Impact Soundworks says.
inSIDious is powered by three oscillators, each with multiple waveforms, LFOs and envelopes, with a sequencer that can be used to generate arpeggios and sequences that truly exhibit the quintessential sounds of the C64. A multi-mode filter is onboard with different curves to choose from, and brings the warmth and distortion of the original hardware. You can also achieve realistic-sounding circuit noise and quantised oscillator modulation with the parameters available in the plug-in.
The easy-to-use interface makes creating these classic sounds a breeze, plus you can choose from over 300 presets to get instant authentic results.
Mike Clarke, the creator of inSIDious, has a history with the C64 himself, naturally. He’s been working in game audio since the 80s and worked with the celebrated developer, Psygnosis, which created games such as Lemmings, Wipeout and Colony Wars.
inSIDious runs in the free Reaktor 6 Player plugin across VST, AU and AAX formats, and thus works in virtually all DAWs. It is available now for the introductory price of $49 from Impact Soundworks, moving up to $64 at the end of July 2020.
