TikTok has announced the launch of SoundOn, an all-in-one in-house music marketing and distribution platform designed to help new and undiscovered artists grow their fan bases and get their music heard.

The platform, which takes credit for the breakout of stars like Olivia Rodrigo and Lil Nas X, says that the new service will allow artists to upload their music directly to TikTok, as well as to massive global platforms like Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify and Pandora.

Distribution is free-of-charge, and in a serious show of commitment, SoundOn will pay out 100% of royalties to music creators for an unlimited time for Bytedance-owned platforms – which includes TikTok, music streaming service Resso, and video editor app CapCut. As for off-Bytedance platforms, artists would receive 100% royalty during the first year, and 90% in the years after.

Musicians also get to retain all rights and royalties indefinitely from tracks uploaded to the platform, including their own masters.

Besides maintaining 100% ownership of their music, artists who have registered with SoundOn can also gain access to a slew of promotional tools and support provided by TikTok, such as audience insight and development, expert advice from a dedicated SoundOn artist team, access to TikTok’s song tab, editorial placements on Resso and CapCut, and promotional support through creator marketing on the TikTok platform.

“TikTok creators are the lifeblood of our platform and the reason sounds become hits,” SoundOn’s website explains. “When you release through our platform, our team will activate diverse creators to make videos with your track. This helps you broaden your fanbase and reach new communities that these creators are a part of.”

Following a period of beta testing, SoundOn is now fully launched in the US, UK, Brazil and Indonesia, with stars like Muni Long, Chloe Adams, Abby Roberts, and Games We Play already using the service.
