According to Reddit users, Spotify is testing out a new “Discover” section made up of short form videos that promote songs.

A video of the alleged new Discover tab was shared on Reddit yesterday (22 November) by user iFaiLikeAmoSs, featuring a scrollable ‘Canvas-style’ tab where users can preview songs.

Much like the Home and Your Library tabs, the new Discover button can be found on the bottom of the screen and tapping on it immediately allows you to watch short clips of songs by artists, which you can then like by tapping on a heart icon.

Reactions to the feature are polarised to say the least, with one camp of users supportive of the video snippet mode of song discovery and the other slamming it as a “tiktok copypaste”. Another video shared by a separate Reddit user named marsy90 seemed to show however, that the feature does not allow for endless scrolling.

There is a cap on the number of songs users can preview and scrolling to the end leads you to a page that says: “That’s all for today. Come back every 24 hours to discover more music picked just for you”. It would appear that this purported Canvas-style Discover tab bears some similarities to Spotify’s current Discover Weekly playlist, only that the recommendations are refreshed daily.

Spotify has been testing out a slew of new features recently, from the removal of a shuffle button from artists’ album page prompted by megastar Adele to a possible in-app karaoke feature. Time will tell if a TikTok-style Discover page is here to stick.
