Most widely renowned for his work on BBC Radio 1, Pete Tong has announced that he is launching his very first DJ Academy. A brand-new project set to launch later this year, the online course boasts to cover the vast spectrum of skills required to become a successful DJ.

Made in associated with the Rome based MAT Academy, a leader in online tuition programmes and co-founded with British record producer, Carl Cox, the course will cover every aspect of a career in DJing.

Providing over 90 comprehensive lessons, the programme prides itself on the extensive range of topics covered in comparison to other courses on the market – promising to provide knowledge on both the technical and business sides of the industry.

Each student receives guidance on a variety of equipment, with experienced mentors and industry moguls demonstrating how to understand and operate the technologies needed. This technical knowledge doesn’t just cover the requirements needed for the mixing process but also shows participants how to use the equipment best when preparing for a set.

Self-proclaimed as “without a doubt, the most comprehensive DJ course on the market” by the MAT Academy, the online platform also claims to give aspiring DJs a head start when it comes to understanding the business aspects of the career.

While knowledge on such topics is usually only accessible via experience, the Pete Tong Academy seeks to overcome this hurdle. Providing advice on the fundamental aspects of being a DJ, including booth etiquette and how to work alongside peers, through to more advanced information on how to use social media effectively and the best approach when searching for booking agents, the course can be customised to both entry-level and more experienced students.

The course is based entirely online, operating through one-on-one video tutorials, available on demand. Here, knowledge is provided by not only Pete Tong himself, but also through a number of partners. Carl Cox, Jamie Jones & Nicole Moudaber are just a few of the names involved, alongside industry heavyweights and TSHA – one of the most in-demand artists around.

“I’m very proud to be launching the PTDJ Academy,” Tong states. “[It is a] new platform that gives my peers and I a chance to pass on a lifetime’s worth of learning, experience and skills to the next generation.”

Alongside the extensive level of information provided in the Academy, participating students are also promised access to “a hotbed of game-changing contacts” that will help them advance from their home studios onto the dancefloor.

In addition, participants who are recognised as making outstanding progress are offered the opportunity to feature on radio, play events and have access to exclusive discounts and perks from Beatport and Defected, official partners of the PTDJA.

“Our ambition is to continue the legacy and help inspire and evolve the essence of what’s required to be a great DJ,” Tong says, summarising the course. “If you want to be a DJ this is the place to start.”

The Pete Tong DJ Academy is set to be launched later this year.
