You can now distribute music in Dolby Atmos through AvidPlay

Artists and labels can now upload Atmos-ready content to Amazon Music and Tidal.

Avid and Dolby have announced that you can now distribute content in Dolby Atmos through the AvidPlay self-distribution platform.

AvidPlay, announced last year, lets artists upload their work onto popular streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. The service also provides tools for artists and labels to keep track of projects, earnings and for automating revenue splits between collaborators.

Now, artists and labels can upload content in Dolby Atmos format to Amazon Music and Tidal directly through AvidPlay. Along with this, Avid has kept its policy of letting artists and labels own 100 per cent of their content rights and earnings, instead taking its slice of the pie by offering AvidPlay as a subscription-based distribution plan.

This announcement ties in with Tidal’s announcement of Dolby Atmos support earlier this year, which could mark a possible increase in demand for immersive audio content. According to a press release from Avid, some artists have been producing more content in Atmos – particularly now that AvidPlay has made distributing Atmos-content both more convenient and cheaper.

It’s unlike anything you’ve ever heard,” said Arno Kammermeier of Berlin-based electronic duo Booka Shade. “With AvidPlay, we can now share this elevated experience with our fans. It’s mind-blowing and the ultimate way to experience our music.”
