Grain Scanner is Ableton’s newest synth for Live 10
The granular machine is designed for experimental, complex sounds

Ableton has released a brand new synth for Live 10 and Max for Live, Grain Scanner by Amazing Noises. It’s a 10-voice polyphonic granular synth and re-synthesiser with the versatility to create experimental noises, complex textures and massive clouds of ambience. Ableton says “its advanced sound engine turns any sample into a blank slate for otherworldly synth parts”.
The advanced granular engine is capable of playing up to a whopping 128,000 microscopic slices of a sample per second. Each of the ten voices can be modulated individually, using up to four of the onboard LFOs, or users can modulate the global parameters with all four modulation sources at once. Grain Scanner has a built-in step sequencer to set up rhythmic patterns, and a dedicated effects panel is designed to provide further sound manipulation methods.
This downloadable Pack comes loaded with 118 presets and dozens of source sounds to be transformed into something new. The synth also lets users import their own samples to add their own personal touch to the sound. Created with Push and other MIDI keyboard controllers in mind, the granular synth offers quick and easy interaction to start making beats.
Grain Scanner is available now for $59/€49/£49 from Ableton.com
