Yonac Roxysn

Yonac has introduced Roxsyn, an iOS synth for guitars and basses. Unlike some other similar systems, this synth plug-in does not require MIDI – just plug your instrument into a lightning/USB audio interface to get started.

What’s unique about Roxsyn is its original sound generation technology known as
‘Metamorphic’. Instead of relying on pitch tracking – which can result in pitch estimation errors, octave glitches and garbled chords – this tech aims to retain the sonic character of your instrument. Be it vibrato, slides, bends or dynamics, Roxsyn is able to transform all of these into accurate and richly expressive synth sounds, according to Yonac.

At the synth’s core are three metamorphic signal generators (or oscillators) that are responsible for the guitar-to-synth sound transformation. Each generator boasts five distinct waveforms on top of a 4+ octave range.

Adding to the signal generators are two independently programmable filter banks, each with the capacity for four analogue-modelled filters. The filters include the run-of-the-mill low-, high- and band-pass types plus another that emulates the human voice.

Other noteworthy features include two independent LFO’s – with nine waveforms to choose from – unique stereo effects as well as a guitar arpeggiator. The last of these is capable of converting sustained guitar notes into arp patterns.

Here’s an overview of the iOS synth:

Roxsyn is available on the Apple App Store at $9.99. More info at yonac.com.
