Rhodes MK8

Rhodes is now taking orders for its long-awaited MK8 electric piano, each fully customisable and assembled by hand at the brand’s new factory in Leeds.

The MK8 arrives 75 years after the sale of the first Rhodes electric piano, and it promises to mark a new era for the brand. With only 500 units available in 2022 – along with a premium price tag – this is an instrument for serious Rhodes fans to consider.

Customisation options include solid or sparkle colours for the lid and a variety of finishes for rest of the electric piano, from the front panel and case to the preamp panel, pedal and rear grille. Rhodes has launched an online customisation tool to help with the process, so you know exactly what you’re going to get.

The Rhodes MK8 features a 73-note keyboard manufactured by Kluge Klaviaturen GmbH (Steinway Group) which promises “unparalleled expression and a nuanced piano-like feel.”

Under the hood, there’s a new custom Rhodes engineered analogue preamp with parametric EQ, independent drive, envelope control, wah, vari-pan with four waveshapes, audio rate modulation capabilities and dual expression pedal control inputs.

The analogue effects section has also been revamped, with a VCA compressor to add punch, a phaser for movement, chorus to add a shimmery edge, and delay to complete the instrument’s iconic sound.

The Rhodes MK8 is available for order, beginning at £8,224.
