Splice has today announced CoSo, an easy-to-use app that lets users stack randomly assigned Splice samples on top of each other to create short loops, sparking creativity.

The app is available for free on iOS and Android devices.

CoSo, made to “empower music makers”, according to Splice, flips “the process of sound discovery on its head.”

The “intelligent musical sketch pad” lets users select their genre, keys and tempo before stacking drum samples on bass samples, vocals and synths over percussion, and so on, with “billions of musical outcomes” available.

CoSo users can simply swipe to delete samples, hold to solo a certain sample and, once they’re enjoying what they’ve made, they are able to export their sounds or even upload it directly to TikTok.

Ale Koretzky, leader of the ML&Audio Science Innovation Team at Splice, says: “I believe we will hear a richer and more diverse selection of sounds bubbling up through this technology, that we might surprise creatives with new ideas.

“Some people will use it to discover sounds and others will use it to create music. At Splice we advocate for the artist and put humans at the centre of any canvas. We hope that by integrating intelligent discovery, curation, and creation, we can help creators with instant inspiration wherever they are”.

A summary of CoSo’s features:

• Splice sample catalogue available (more for premium users)
• Technology changes styles, keys and tempos of samples
• Create a Stack, add layers, swipe, tap and touch
• Save, send and share – to TikTok, via text or locate your sounds on Splice to use them in your DAW

CoSo is free to download now on the App Store or on the Google Play store. It is also available on your Splice account, if you are a Splice user.
