Spitfire Audio has unveiled the Spitfire Evolutions collection, comprising reimagined versions of the brand’s Evo Grid libraries.
Retitled as Angular String Evolutions, Fragile String Evolutions and Woodwind Evolutions, they replace Evo Grid 1, Evo Grid 2 and Evo Grid 4 respectively.
These updated ‘evolutions’ – Spitfire’s term for samples comprising long, evolving notes – are now available in their own dedicated plug-ins. These libraries feature newly created presets and provide increased levels of control.
Angular String Evolutions and Fragile String Evolutions
As their names imply, these evolutions feature sounds from string instruments, recorded to tape by acclaimed engineer Nick Taylor in 2015. The updated 2019 version adds 12 and 13 new presets for the Angular String Evolutions and Fragile String Evolutions respectively.
This collection consists of woodwind evolutions ranging in character from “dark and arresting, to soaring and beautiful”, says Spitfire. You’ll have access to samples from ‘Woods’ – flutes and clarinets – and ‘Reeds’ – Oboe, Cor Anglais, Bass Clarinet, Baritone Sax and Bassoons. These can be used separately or together. Across these two families of instruments, 19 new presets have been added.
And with these updates, you can pick from the wide range of different mic mixes and types of processing from tight and dry to ambient to glitchy and distorted. You can use these in whatever combination you desire or all at once, according to Spitfire. Find the full articulation list at Spitfire’s website.
Here’s a quick explanation of the new Evo Grid plug-ins from Spitfire co-founder Christian Henson.
All evolution packs are available now for an introductory price of $249 each (RRP $299). More info at spitfireaudio.com.
