Sonible expands AI-based plug-in range with smart:comp
Plug-in suggests settings and dynamically evens out tonal imbalances.

Sonible has grown its list of AI-based plug-ins with smart:comp, a tool designed to deliver customised compression settings on the fly.
The plug-in offers two types of compression: regular or ‘time-domain’ and ‘spectral’. The first of these – activated with a single click – recommends appropriate settings for threshold, ratio, attack and release.
Spectral compression, on the other hand, involves smart:comp analysing the input signal across more than 2000 bands in order to dynamically even out tonal imbalances. Sonible likens this mode of scanning and tweaking to that of an “intelligent, ultra-high-resolution multiband compressor”.

Another function that smart:comp offers is frequency-dependent sidechain ducking. When you’re operating in sidechain mode, the plug-in looks out for potential spectral clashes between input and sidechain signals, according to Sonible. It then helps to mitigate these clashes by ducking affected frequency regions within the input signal, effectively making room for your sidechain signal.
Although smart:comp is an intelligent, learning tool, Sonible still grants you autonomy over compression – you’ll be able to control the final outcome by adjusting key parameters.
