Shure has announced new iterations of its SRH440A and SRH840A headphones with upgrades to design and sound performance.

First introduced in 2009, Shure claims that both SRH440A and SRH840A present upgrades “optimised for critical listening and studio monitoring” – thanks to nuanced improvements such as lower harmonic distortion and a more accurate matching between the left and right drivers.

Both models are powered by 40mm neodymium dynamic drivers for improved bass, Shure also puts forth the SRH440A as accurate for podcasting, home recording, and critical editing and mixing.

Both headphones sport closed-back, circumaural design for an emphasis on reducing background noises and comfort during long listening sessions. Shure says that the fresh industrial design with matt black finish makes the models more durable. SRH840A, the higher-end model, features gold detailing on the cups.

Shure also says that a straight, detachable cable is now standard for both SRH440A and SRH840A for greater mobility in a studio setting.

Sean Sullivan, Global Product Manager, Listening Products, at Shure, shared: “Today’s consumers are seeking high-quality audio without sacrificing style and comfort. This upgrade delivers just that – a low-profile design that looks great on camera and improved acoustics to ensure clean, and consistent audio reproduction. Recording professionals and content creators will benefit from professional headphones that include Shure’s iconic sound signature and a fresh, modern design.”

The SRH440A is priced at £89 / $99, while the SRH840A retails at £135 / $149. Both models are now available for sale at Shure’s website. Purchases will include a carrying bag, cable, and a threaded gold stereo 1/8” to 1/4” adapter.
