NAMM 2022: Tech company Pioneer DJ has today launched its latest DJ mixer, the DJM-S5. Inspired by the equipment used by pro battle DJs, the unit rings reminiscent of models such as the DJM-S11 and is packed with new features.

Sporting an intuitive pro-style layout, eye-catching red gloss finish and the popular Magvel Fader Pro, Pioneer DJ designed the DJM-S5 with a varied array of users in mind, aiming to make scratching easily accessible, even to complete beginners.

Stating that the unit provides a “perfect balance of straightforward operation and exciting performance features”, the brand ensures that the DJM-S5 allows creators to add nuance and new dimensions to their mixes from the first use. This is done as the new Magvel Fader Pro feature makes scratching easy, allowing users to find their perfect weighting with the Feeling Adjust setting.

In addition, the large effect levers on the mixer are the same design as those on Pioneer DJ’s flagship DJM-S11. Here, the levers allow for control of up to 57 different effects in Serato DJ Pro, including paid expansion packs, and let DJs save their favourites in two easily accessible banks.

Controlling pad modes such as Hot Cue, Sampler and Scratch Bank is easy as four performance pads feature on each channel too – meaning samples and whole tracks can be accessed quickly and easily during live sets.

Even for those lacking experience, the DJM-S5 comes easy to navigate, with the brand-new Scratch Cutter feature. By simply moving the control vinyl or jog wheel on one of your decks, the mixer will apply a choice of six cutting patterns to the loaded sample or track in perfect time with the track playing on the other deck – eliminating the need to adjust the crossfader.

Finally, the unit offers native control of Serato DJ Pro and Serato DVS. Powered by connecting the mixer to a computer and running the software, the DJM-S5 is the first-ever mixer released by the brand to be powered by a USB connection, making it arguably the brand’s most portable device yet.
