NAMM 2022: Pro audio manufacturer Fluid Audio has announced their latest reference studio monitor — the Image 2 — which comes with an impressive spec sheet for under $2,000.

The Image 2 is billed as a ‘two in one’ monitor that’s dedicated to nearfield and midfield use.

In addition to serving as a full range mixing and mastering system, the Image 2 also comes with a ‘mixcube’ mode that apparently helps dial in low end and mids for a wide range of “bass challenged” devices. It also helps adjust the overall balance, depth, vocals, and improve kick drum performance.

Featuring two 203mm bass drivers, one 130mm mid-range driver, and one 28x43mm AMT tweeter, the Image 2 delivers a frequency response that extends from 28Hz all the way to 30kHz. Driving this system is Fluid Audio’s newly developed proprietary Class-D amplifier that promises very low distortion, ample headroom, lower output noise, improved THD+N performance, improved IMD performance, and lower output impedance.

In terms of new features, Fluid has added a USB port on the Image 2 to allow for future firmware and feature updates, while the new AMT tweeter is said to deliver precise transient response and high-end but distortion-free details.

The Image 2’s aluminum cone mid-range driver is also an in-house development. It uses shorting rings that substantially reduce the harmonic and intermodulation distortion generated by voice coil displacement. This also reduces the modulation of magnetic flux as the voice coil moves, which results in a cleaner and more accurate mix.

To top things off, the monitor uses a closed cabinet design that provides a natural roll off with no unwanted “bass humps”, making it less sensitive to room positioning.

Priced at $1,899 / €1,799 each, the Image 2 is on show at NAMM 2022 and will start shipping in September 2022.
