Musiio, the music technology company specialising in AI-driven tagging, has launched a self-tagging service aimed at artists, DJs and small labels. Through Musiio Tag, users can upload their music and have AI-generated tags returned to them for 7 cents USD, or 5p a track.

Music tagging (and good metadata practices in general) can improve track visibility for streaming platforms. Automated playlists often compile songs based on tags such as genre and moods. In a nutshell, the more comprehensive your tags are, the more likely a track is to be picked up by a playlisting algorithm.

“With 40,000 tracks published to Spotify every single day alone, ensuring your music is appropriately tagged is critical in ensuring your music is given the best opportunity of success,” Musiio CEO and co-founder Hazel Savage explained. “Without tags, it is so easy for your music to get lost in the ether.”

The platform’s AI analysis can recognise genre, instrument, audio fidelity, tempo and key – as well as broader terms such as “mood” and “energy”. It’s also possible to choose specific tags – such as tempo and key – for a cent each.

Once your tracks have been uploaded, you’ll be able to download tags as a CSV file, but keep in mind that Musiio doesn’t store backups of the actual audio.
