MeldaProduction has launched MDrumReplacer, a plug-in that lets you detect and replace percussive hits with samples.

The plug-in touts an algorithm that listens for certain frequencies to accurately detect the right piece of the kit. You can apply it onto single instrument recordings, or – with the right threshold set – even tracks with a lot of bleed.

In a situation where, perhaps you improperly mic’d up a drum kit at a session, drum replacement plug-ins let you preserve the original performance. They’re also capable of creative applications such as doubling kicks and replacing your drummer’s snare with a vuvuzela hand clap.

MDrumReplacer’s operation is designed to be simple. In most cases, all you have to do is engage detection and select a sample to replace unwanted hits with. For samples, you’ll be able to access MeldaProduction’s vast free multi-sample library to find just the right drum sound.

MDrumReplacer is available in AAX, AU, VST, and VST3 formats. It’s priced now at an introductory €29 (usually €129).
