LG has released the Hi-Res Audio-certified LG UltraGear Gaming Speaker GP9, which promises a gaming experience that frees players from their headsets.

As the first speaker in LG’s gaming line, the GP9 is tailored for gamers with features such as 3D Gaming Sound Innovation, the Game Genre Optimiser, and 7.1 virtual surround sound, powered by a ES9038PRO Hi-Fi Quad DA.

The GP9 not only plays audio from your games but is also capable of isolating your voice from background noise via echo cancellation. This lets the onboard mic prioritise your voice over other sounds it picks up – meaning co-op sessions that won’t require a headset to communicate with your teammates.

The GP9’s other premiere feature is the Game Genre Optimiser, which comes armed with two different modes: FPS (first-person shooter) Mode and RTS (real-time strategy) Mode.

FPS Mode is tailored to pick up environmental sounds to indicate information like enemy positioning, while RTS Mode focuses on immersive spatial sound. These modes are enabled by what LG calls 3D Gaming Sound Innovation, which uses Head-Related Transfer Work.

The GP9 also offers customisable EQ profiles, which gamers can shape and then share with others.

Onboard, there’s also a battery which lasts up to five hours in a single use, and connection protocols for USB-C, AUX, optical, and Bluetooth.

The LG UltraGear Gaming Speaker GP9 is currently on sale in South Korea and the US, as well as select markets in Europe. It is currently priced at $499/£342.
