JBL is celebrating its 75th anniversary with the L100 Classic 75, a limited-edition retro revival of the celebrated L100 Classic speaker.

Aimed at audiophiles rather than producers, the L100 Classic 75 calls on the legacy of the brand’s L100 model from the 1970s, the consumer-focused version the pioneering 3-way compact studio monitor, the 4310.

The L100 had previously been brought back in 2018 as the L100 Classic, but the new L100 Classic 75 offers some acoustic changes for improved speaker performance.

New to the L100 Classic 75 is an updated woofer suspension design and new bi-wiring capabilities via dual sets of gold-plated binding posts. According to JBL, the latter helps minimise impedance differences between highs and lows, which should result in a clearer midrange. Meanwhile, the original driver design is kept original.

The speakers also sport a great look, thanks to teak wood veneer on all sides and the iconic black Quadrex foam grille.

The L100 Classic 75 ships with JS-120 angled floor stands. Or, you could choose to go the way of the classic Maxell tape ad – which famously featured the L100s – and lay them flat on the ground. Keep in mind, however: there’s no guarantee you’ll be “blown away”.

The JBL L100 Classic 75 will be available in May with a high-end, audiophile price tag of $5,500 a pair.
