A first look and listen to Behringer’s forthcoming UB-Xa synth, a reproduction of the Oberheim OB-Xa, has been shared online by UK music retailer Andertons.

A comprehensive demo of the 16-voice synth was shared by Anderton’s yesterday (15 May) to YouTube. Watch it below.

features two VCOs per voice with square/sawtooth waveforms and a switchable two-pole or four-pole VCF as well as a six-waveform LFO.

The UB-Xa polysynth features two VCOs per voice and a choice between a two- or four-pole VCF, along with a six-waveform LFO. The synth also comes with comprehensive modulation capabilites as well as two ADSR envelopes for controlling the VCF and VCA envelopes. Notably, it also offers 512 patch memories with 64 step sequences included in each memory.

In monophonic mode, the UB-Xa is able to stack 16 voices on top of each other. You’ll also be given an option to change the amount of voices that are stacked to help you achieve an array of sound types.

Under polyphonic aftertouch, the MPE controller comes with a pitch bend filter and matrix control to give you a more expressive sound across the keyboard.

The synth also comes with a programmable sequencer and versatile arpeggiator system, and offers vintage modes including OB-Xa mode and OB-8 mode apart from stereo mode.

Behringer recently teased the UB-Xa on its Facebook page in March, stating that “the UB-Xa Desktop version is alive and fully working. Wow what a day.” The brand had been working on the synth since 2019, with delays being exacerbated by recent chip shortages due to factory shutdowns in Ukraine.

While the release date of the UB-Xa is still unknown, the brand said it is hoping to price the synth at under $1,500.
