Endlesss, the project of electronic musician and instrument developer Tim Exile, has revealed an iOS app for collaborative music-making. It’ll be a part of an initiative dubbed Endlesss.fm, which is “a virtual place where you can make and share music in the moment, solo or with friends”, according to the brand.

The new app will enable users to compose short music pieces which others can also tinker with, creating a virtual jam session of sorts. Though the app is still a work in progress, it has currently some neat features lined up for its beta launch.

The main feature is the ability to create pieces of music or “Rifffs”, as Endlesss describes them. These are short snippets with multiple layers, made with built-in or external instruments.

To get started on Rifffs, the app provides you with sample-based soundpacks – bass, synth and drum – as well as a Remix FX pack. With a Rifff in hand, you can invite friends to jump in on a live virtual jam, both in-app or synchronised wirelessly via the Ableton Link protocol.

Additionally, you’ll be able to store Rifffs – as compressed audio – in a browser, and export them as stems. Plans for DAW integration, which will allow importing/exporting Rifffs to and from DAWs, are also on the horizon. And if you’re wondering, live jamming between DAW and phone is also in the works.

Here are some other future features:

  • Chat-style interface update
  • More soundpacks
  • Analogue modelling synthesis
  • Text messages during jams
  • Uncompressed audio (as a paid option)
