Devious Machines Duck

Devious Machines has released Duck, a sidechain plug-in designed to provide you with an instant pumping effect.

Pumping, or ducking, is a volume reduction effect used on myriad genres, from classic house to modern EDM. Duck promises pumps that will make your mixes “cleaner, louder and more exciting” by getting your fat synths out of the way of drum hits.

The character of the plug-in’s pumps is dependent on volume curves. These are either automated in Repeat mode or triggered manually by sidechained audio and MIDI signals. The plug-in supplies you with eight preset curves, but you’ll also be able to draw your own curves and loop them at specified speed and depth settings.

Elsewhere, Duck boasts a crossover feature that lets you process high- and low-ends independently. It also comes with a smoothing algorithm designed to weed out clicks.

While Duck is primarily used for ducking, you can also tweak it to get a range of secondary effects, including trance-gating, tremolo and assorted volume effects.
