Japanese audio brand Denon has entered the true wireless earbuds game with the release of the Denon Noise Cancelling Earbuds and Denon Wireless Earbuds.

Compatible with any Bluetooth-capable playback device, the earbuds are said to deliver “lifelike sound” thanks to large-diameter dynamic drivers which have been tested and tuned by Denon sound masters. Both versions sport an identical Apple Airpod-esque shape, and are IPX4 rated for water resistance, making them safe to wear even during rain or heavy workouts.

As its name suggests, the Noise Cancelling Earbuds – which retails at £139 / $159 / €159 – features Denon’s active noise cancellation (ANC) system. It also comes with a Transparency mode, and users can toggle between the two modes via a touch sensor. In addition, there’s a wear detection function that automatically pauses your music when you remove the earbuds.

To ensure quality voice call performance, the Denon Noise Cancelling Earbuds feature a beamforming function leveraging two microphones that together with an internal DSP. A third microphone takes advantage of the ear canal’s natural shielding against wind and ambient noise to bring additional clarity.

For users who do not want to shell out the extra cost, the Denon Wireless Earbuds are a cheaper alternative at just £89 / $99 / €99. They come without ANC and feature slightly smaller drivers.

Battery life is on the low side with the Noise Cancelling Earbuds providing 6 hours of playtime, and up to 24 hours with the charging case. Those numbers are bumped down to 4.8 hours when the noise cancellation function is turned on. Meanwhile, the Wireless Earbuds fall slightly behind at just 4.5 hours per charge with up to 18 hours provided by the case.

The earbuds are available in black or white, with the Noise Cancelling Earbuds featuring a glossy finish with silver accents, and the Wireless Earbuds featuring a matte finish.
