Could Pro Tools soon be functional in VR?
Facebook user has demonstrated a proof of concept.
It seems that Pro Tools may, someday, be coming to a VR device near you. This concept was demonstrated in a short clip uploaded by Facebook user Prolific Sound Solutions, where the user showed the popular DAW in use with Oculus’ virtual desktop.
In the video, the Oculus user motions towards a virtual chair in a futuristic high-rise apartment before loading up a Pro Tools display linked to his computer. He then uses Oculus Touch controllers to play a Pro Tools composition that’s presented within the Oculus’ virtual environment.
Although the demonstration has a few kinks – namely glitchy audio – it was able to briefly show the potential benefits to immersion and focus when Avid’s flagship audio editing software is used in a VR setting.
