Bose’s QuietComfort 45 noise-cancelling headphones have arrived, four years after the release of their predecessor, the QuietComfort 35 II.

The new pair makes improvements to sound quality and promises “world-class quiet” through different active noise cancelling modes, along with a 24-hour battery life.

The headphones use an array of microphones to continuously measure your surroundings and offer active noise cancelling through phase inversion.

Bose also introduces Aware mode, which blends in ambient sounds so you can stay aware of your surroundings. When flipped to Quiet mode, you get full-on noise cancelling, with the fit of the ear cups and headband adding passive reduction.

Sound quality is said to be improved with TriPort-design vents in the earcups adding “depth and fullness” to sound reproduction. Meanwhile, a volume-optimised active EQ boosts highs and lows so playback feels consistent at different levels.

Physical controls on the right cup let you switch listening modes, adjust volume levels and connect to Bluetooth.

The QuietComfort 45 headphones promise 24 hours of playback with active noise cancelling on. They charge fairly quickly through USB-C: 2.5 hours charges it completely, while a quick 15 minutes gets you 2.5 hours of use.

Each pair also comes with a carry case and a 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm audio cable.

The Bose QuietComfort 45 headphones come in black or white and are priced at $329.
