NAMM 2022: Austrian Audio releases OC16 large-diaphragm condenser microphone
Designed with high end features in mind, despite the low price point.

NAMM 2022: Austrian Audio has released the OC16 large-diaphragm condenser microphone, designed with high-end features and an affordable price point.
The microphone joins its predecessors, the OC18 and the OC818 models as a microphone that boasts transparent and natural sound using Austrian Audio’s “Open Acoustics Technology” approach, which “reduces acoustic problems such as unwanted reflections and standing waves within the microphone,” the manufacturer says.
The OC16 microphone has been designed with a flat design in combination with a low weight (335g) which allows for miking and precise alignment even in hard to reach places.
In a statement, the company have said that “the new OC16 is the ideal all-around microphone for anyone who wants to take a step up into Austrian Audio’s high-quality sound world.
“Its price to performance ratio is unbeatable, putting it within reach of home studios, gigging musicians, school music programs, podcasters, live streamers, rental companies, and professional studios looking to fill out their mic locker with an affordable workhorse.”
The microphone features both a low cut and high pass filter, which will both eliminate the lowest interference frequencies as well as counteract the proximity effect (when bass is boosted when the microphone is positioned close to the sound source).
In addition to this, the microphone also dons high sound pressure tolerance and can withstand sound pressure levels of up to 148 dB SPL. This means that it can be used in front of very loud sources without running the risk of distortion.
Austrian Audio was born out of the closure of the AKG offices in 2017. This means that while the company itself is brand new, they are backed by the 350 cumulative years of engineering experience from AKG, the company states.
This microphone follows on the OC18 and OC818, which boasts similar specs with high sensitivity and low self-noise, but at a higher price point.
The OC19 is available now for £319/€349/$399 via austrian.audio.
