Arturia collaborates with Noise Engineering for MicroFreak V3
MicroFreak’s firmware gets an update with three new oscillator modes, unison mode and more presets
Microfreak just keeps getting better. Arturia continues to evolve the dinky, delirious Gear of the Year champion in a new firmware update, teaming up with LA modular brand Noise Engineering. The collaboration brings a few new features that expand the potential of the wacky one-oscillator wonder, pushing its sound further into the experimental digital realm.
Three new Noise Engineering oscillator modes are part of the update: Bass, SawX and Harm. These algorithms can also be found in Noise Engineering’s Virt Iter module and bring additive harmonic colour, wavefolding, phase modulation and more.
Bass is a non-linear waveshaping algorithm that creates unique low-end waveforms with controls for saturating, fold and noise. Harm combines additive synthesis with wavefolding to create rich tones and textures that can be fine-tuned with Spread, Rectification and noise. SawX manipulates sawtooth waves to create a supersaw with added chorus and phase modulation. Control this algorithm with Saw Mod, chorus amount and noise.
Four-voice unison can be deployed on all oscillator types, offering a spread of up to 12 semitones that can also be used as a modulation destination. This is a sure-fire way to thicken up your pads and beef up your basslines.
MicroFreak now boasts 384 preset slots to save even more of your moments of magic. There are also 96 more factory presets for quick inspiration right off the bat. Saving and loading presets is now a more fluid process, with the MicroFreak capable of loading the last saved preset upon restart and always retaining Chord Mode’s most recent chord.
