Arturia launches its software emulation of the Ensoniq SQ-80

Arturia’s latest software emulation of a classic synth takes on the Ensoniq SQ-80, famously played by the likes of John Carpenter and Aril Brikha.
SQ80 V is described as a “faithful” yet “enhanced” imagining of the classic digital synth and has a voice built around waveforms and wavetables.
SQ80 V recreates the three digital oscillator chips (DOC) and CEM analogue filter and amp of the original, offering 75 waveforms which can be combined in thousands of ways and modulation through LFOs, envelopes and more.
The plug-in deviates from the original by adding “hundreds more” waveforms, a built-in arpeggiator, MIDI modulation talents, MPE support, envelope modes and a selection of 15 different effects. The interface also has been designed to be better suited to modern workflows.
As a primer to the rich new soft synth, Arturia is launching two sound banks – Dust Materials and Raw Machinery – designed to show off its capabilities, covering “dusty lo-fi textures” to “gritty industrial soundscapes” and more.
The Arturia SQ80 V is available now, with the two sound banks, at a launch price of $99 to celebrate its launch. It’s also included in the V Collection 8 bundle (usually $798) for 70 per cent off.
