GarageBand Remix Sessions

Apple has updated GarageBand iOS and iPadOS with free Remix Sessions from Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga, giving producers of all levels the opportunity to put their own spin on their hits.

The Cupertino giant wants more people to learn the art of remixing within GarageBand. The Remix Sessions are easily accessible via the Sound Library page, taking users to an in-app video explainer with the two iconic artists. Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga explain the process behind the creation of their tracks, and why they want you to instil your imagination into their music.

During the video, an Apple Retail Creative Pro provides step-by-step remix instructions using the GarageBand Remix Sessions.

GarageBand Producer Packs

Apple’s Remix Sessions give you the mastered stems of Dua Lipa’s Break My Heart and Lady Gaga’s Free Woman. Each track is presented in the format of a Live Loops project, allowing you to instantly trigger various samples in sync with each other at any tempo.

You can introduce new sounds into the track by adding virtual instrument tracks or browsing GarageBand’s Apple Loops library. Once you’ve created or selected a loop, you can trigger it alongside the samples from the original tracks. You’ll be able to take the tracks down new avenues, be it trap, EDM, rock, trip-hop and beyond.

Although Apple’s sample library is royalty-free, samples from the Remix Sessions remain licensed by the artists and labels, meaning you can’t use them in your own track. Fortunately, Apple has made it impossible for you to export any of the stems, so you won’t be running into any legal problems by tinkering in the projects. Instead, these are designed to be personal learning experiences for beginners and a bit of fun for more experienced producers.

Speaking on the release, Dua Lipa said: “Music has the power to bring people together, and this is doing that in such an exciting way. I personally can’t wait for people to have a lot of fun experimenting and coming up with different versions of my song.”

Lady Gaga, who uses GarageBand in her work said: “GarageBand is my idea bank and where I start my songwriting, so I’m excited to make my song ‘Free Woman’ available as a Remix Session. I want musicians and music lovers to be able to see how a song is produced and be able to hear all the individual parts, and then put their own creative colour on it, doing whatever they want in GarageBand.”

Apple also released Producer Packs in GarageBand, which you can learn more about here.

GarageBand users can access the new Remix Sessions immediately from the iOS and iPadOs versions of the app.
