The upgrade fleshes out the rudimentary DAW with support for MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE) devices and includes an MPE Control device that lets you further edit pitch, slide and pressure parameters to a user’s needs.
It also introduces a handful of new audio effects: Phaser-Flanger features wide frequency and mod ranges along with a doubler mode; Limiter lets you set an output limit and could be handy for rough mastering, and Saturator lets you invite dirt, texture and punch to a track.
Live 11 Lite has also allows up to 16 scenes in session view and includes an expanded core library with an emphasis on “contemporary music production” – involving new sounds, drum kits, Racks, Grooves, loops and MIDI clips.
Features introduced in Live 11 also make it onto the DAW, including Tempo Following, which adjusts session tempo in real-time to incoming audio, along with devices such as Redux and Chorus-Ensemble.
While you can’t buy Live 11 Lite standalone, it does come packaged with a variety of hardware products for free. Some of these include the AKAI Professional APC Keys 25 and Focusrite’s Scarlet 2i2 audio interface.
