Italian modular-maker, Frap Tools, has introduced its latest noisemaker, BRENSO. The 30HP Eurorack analogue oscillator is borne out of a “reflection very meaning of the word ‘complex’”, according to Frap Tools.

BRENSO’s power lies in its ability to provide a wealth of modulation options that can be precisely set by its user, going beyond Frap Tools’ definition of a “complex oscillator”. Three sections comprise the module; two for the sound generation – colour-coded yellow and green – and one section for sound processing – colour coded white and red.

The yellow and green sound generation sections provide control over the two triangle-core oscillators, modulated and synced both internally and externally. You can set the amount of exponential and linear thru-zero FM independently per each oscillator and control their amount of ‘deviation’ through two separate knobs or CV inputs.

The Timbre Modulation section features two parallel waveshapers with a PWM circuit, mixable with a crossfader and processed by a wavefolder. An analogue has been designed by Frap Tools from the ground up, which opens the wavefolder above its maximum level and closes it with a non-linear slope, with a length that can be manually adjusted.

BRENSO’s signal path is expanded on the front panel and grouped in four ‘modulation buses; two for modulating frequencies, one for modulating timbre and one for amplitude modulation and ring modulation. It can perform amplitude modulation or ring modulation, with the crossfader defining the amount of modulation.

Frap Tools BRENSO is available now for $/€639. Find out more at frap.tools.
