BandLab

The ever-growing social music platform, BandLab, has launched a brand new tool that gives users the freedom to sell their music and keep 100% of the earnings they make. BandLab Albums will let artists publish an unlimited number of singles, EPs and albums with complete ownership of their work and no hidden terms and conditions.

BandLab’s community of 20 million users will all be able to take advantage of the user-friendly and intuitive interface of Albums. In a few easy steps, all kinds of creators can publish their work with tracks either made in BandLab or from other sources. Each release can be customised with its own artwork and theme designs, plus the option to include bonus content, such as lyric sheets, images, videos or behind-the-scenes content.

When publishing the album, creators can set the asking price for their album in the safe knowledge that BandLab doesn’t ask for a fee or cut for the service. There is also no hidden fees or subscription charges for listeners beyond payment gateway fees, which is powered by Stripe. Users can also release their work for free.

Up to 50 songs can be uploaded as a whole album in a variety of file formats including MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG and AAC. The tracks will be delivered as M4As at 96kbps/44.1kHz. When attaching bonus content, up to 10 extra files of 10MB each can be uploaded for fans to download once they purchase an album, with most image and video formats supported.

BandLab Albums

Uploading with Albums is available only on BandLab’s web version at this time, with releases on iOS and Android versions of the app in the near future. However, listeners can stream or download Albums via BandLab web, iOS and Android.

CEO of BandLab, Meng Ru Kuok said: “Our users are at the heart of our product. Beyond the continued development of our next-generation solution for the music creation process, we’re incredibly committed to supporting our growing base of creators at each stage of their creative journey. We want that journey to last a lifetime, and releasing Albums is an important step in allowing our artists and independent labels to create sustainable revenue streams for themselves whilst keeping them completely in control and ownership of their own content. We’re really looking forward to seeing what artistic statements our users will make with Albums, and hope that the ability to earn from creating will empower more people to make music.”
