Avid has made the decision to cancel its Avid Connect 2020 conference and pulled its appearance at the NAB Show 2020, which has subsequently been cancelled due to coronavirus precautions. The company behind Pro Tools and Sibelius has stated that it won’t be attending all face-to-face events across the globe.

To make up for its lack of show appearances, the brand invites the community to participate in an online broadcast in April. This will be Avid’s showcase of new products that had been planned for unveiling at Connect 2020 and NAB 2020 in Las Vegas. However, if the coronavirus situation is contained later in the year, Avid and the ACA may host regional Connect events worldwide to give its community the opportunity to check out the new products.

This decision comes amidst statements from Ableton Loop, Synthplex, SXSW and Musikmesse who have all postponed or cancelled events. With Berlin closing major venues and reportedly banning gatherings of over 1,000 attendees, it is unclear whether the high profile synth show, Superbooth, will go on at this time.

“While these were difficult decisions for Avid, and for me personally, we feel strongly that helping stop the spread and severity of the COVID-19 virus is not just the job of governments and healthcare providers, but the responsibility of every individual, organization and corporation around the globe,” said Jeff Rosica, CEO and President at Avid. “We will take this opportunity to try new methods and experiment with different approaches to better engage with our clients, users and the community around the globe. Avid remains supportive of the NAB Show and looks forward to next year’s event.”
