Audio-Technica releases ATH-M50x in Limited Edition purple and black
Both the Bluetooth and wired versions get a paint job.
Prince lovers rejoice! Audio-Technica has unveiled a purple and black version of its best-selling headphones, the ATH-M50x and ATH-M50xBT – now known as the ATH-M50xPB and M50xBTPB.
The headphones are built with metallic purple earcups with black accents, a bold black headband and black earpads. The only changes here are cosmetic; the headphones perform in the same way as their all-black and all-white siblings. The M50x headphones are favoured by “millions of streamers, musicians and performers across the world”, according to Audio-Technica. They feature 45mm large-aperture drivers, sound-isolating earcups and a sturdy build.
In our review, we gave the ATH-M50xBT the MT Choice Award, stating that they are “great-sounding phones that you can monitor with in certain mixing scenarios, but which also double up as fantastic wire-free listening phones with a great vibe”. On the wired iteration of the headphones, we said: “they’re accurate, practical, sound excellent and will have you fixing bits of your mix that you thought didn’t need fixing”. Audio-Technica’s new limited-edition ATH-M50xPB (£149 / 169 EUR) and the ATH-
M50xBTPB (£199 / 219 EUR) will be available from August 2020.
