Arturia MatrixBrute gets a major update to version 2.0
Included in the update is new sequencer features, preset compare mode and the ability to create your own LFO waveforms
After two years since the unleashing of the beast that is Arturia’s MatrixBrute, we are now given a free update to MatrixBrute 2.0. The focus of this update is to provide improved functionality and offer even more flexibility to its users, so they can create sounds that are truly unique.
Owners of MatrixBrute can update by hooking it up to a computer using USB, and opening Arturia MIDI Control Center (this is a free download from arturia.com). Select MatrixBrute from the dropdown menu, then Firmware Revision, and finally hit Update. Arturia has advised backing up your presets before updating to 2.0, as there is no possibility of reverting back to version 1.0.
What’s new, MatrixBrute?
Originally, MatrixBrute offered four modulation options. Now, with version 2.0 you can utilise four pages of four modulations, quadrupling your creative scope. The sequencer gets an upgrade, now allowing you to easily duplicate and delete sections, rotate the sequence, visualise notes in the step and more. Although a simple update, it could make a difference to your workflow.
MatrixBrute’s LFO now has the option to expand on waveforms, by allowing you to draw in your own using the matrix. You can quantize the steps, or smooth them out, and sync the LFO with triplets or dotted time divisions. Preset compare mode prevents you from accidentally overwriting a beloved preset you have. You can check that your sound is better than the one your saving over with preset compare, meaning you preview a slot before you save so you won’t lose patches you love.
The synth can now function completely on its own, without having to connect to a computer to make changes to the system. The new ‘system’ mode unlocks all parameters that could only be accessed through Arturia’s MCC software. On top of all these updates, Arturia says they have “listened to MatrixBrute owners and made things work even better for them”. Realtime recording with legato won’t retrigger envelopes, changing presets doesn’t reset the sync anymore, and many more little improvements can be found in MatrixBrute 2.0.
