512 Audio

512 Audio is a new audio brand out of Austin, Texas, and is kickstarting its journey with two new XLR microphones – Limelight and Skylight – and three setup accessories. The company has been founded by the team behind Warm Audio’s award-winning microphones, preamps, guitar pedals and rack effects.

While Warm Audio focuses on designing classic-inspired gear for pro audio applications, 512 Audio is aiming its sights at content creators. Tommy Edwards, vice president of product strategy for 512 Audio and Warm Audio says: “Instead of focusing on the specs war, we thought about how audio gear would be used by people, what they want to create, and how they want to connect.”

“512 Audio microphones and accessories are built to capture everything creators need and nothing they don’t. We specifically tuned the mics to focus on the frequencies that would deliver the most for the creators without any noise they don’t need. We wanted to deliver the best of pro audio in a tailor-made, uncomplicated way.”

Limelight is a dynamic vocal mic that’s ideal for close-range vocal applications, including podcasts, broadcasts and live streams. 512 Audio has given this mic a hypercardioid response pattern to significantly reduce ambient noise, with a built-in pop shield and low-frequency filter to cut out unwanted plosives. The brand says this microphone can “bring the clear, natural audio of a professional broadcast studio to your home setup.”

Skylight is a large-diaphragm condenser mic boasting a 34mm gold-plate capsule engineered with premium components and voice-tailored frequency response. Primed for singers, podcasters and streamers, the cardioid mic excels at capturing ”the warmth and detail of speech and singing vocals”, 512 Audio says. Skylight is built with a metal pop filter and low-profile shockmount to minimise plosives and low-end rumble.

Setup Essentials

Along with the Limelight and Skylight is 512 Audio’s Setup Essentials, including a 512-BBA Boom Arm, Academy Headphones and 512-Pop mic pop filter.
The 512-BBA Boom Arm features 360-degree rotation and a silent spring design to keep the mic in place while recording. The Academy Headphones are studio monitor headphones with 45mm dynami drivers, and the 512-Pop filter is built with metal mesh to enhance vocal recordings.

Limelight and Skylight are available now for £190/$200 each via Amazon, Best Buy and Sweetwater. Learn more at 512audio.com.
