In Rare Finds this time, we head to the idyllic setting of Dobbs Ferry, New York to visit a talented mix engineer whose work can be heard from top-tier hip-hop such as Run The Jewels and Aesop Rock to Disney movies including Frozen and Moana.
Joey Raia runs a beautiful studio and has in constant rotation a series of unusual instruments, high-end effects and a glorious mixing console. Learn which musician inspired a specific vintage synth purchase, and check out some of his most prized production possessions to get an insight into Joey’s process. Over the course of this video, get a feel for how he uses guitar pedals, hardware tape delays and how he uses his desk to mix quickly.
Our other episodes of Rare Finds have taken us to Nashville’s Layman Drug Company built in a renovated drugstore, a time-capsule studio called Welcome To 1979 that’s home to a fantastic array of storied gear, and Studios 301 in Sydney where we talk with vocal producer extraordinaire Simon Cohen.
